Metra Theatre is a young, innovative theatre company that strives to revive dormant texts, making them accessible to modern theatre audiences.
 |
 |
Metra Theatre was formed in August 2005 when 9 graduating Performing Arts Students of London Metropolitan University were selected to perform at the annual International Shakespeare Festival in Gdansk, Poland. In between taking in an Armenian 'Macbeth' and a Polish 'Hamlet', enjoying the beaches of Sopot and sipping cocktails in the Old Town of Gdansk, an ideology was born!
Metra Theatre Aims and Objectives:
To explore contemporary theatrical developments whilst keeping classical elements alive.
To stimulate our audiences on a sensory, emotional and intellectual level, resulting in a fuller theatrical experience.
To revive dormant texts and make them more accessible to new audiences.
To work as an ensemble of varied individuals, encouraging equality whilst celebrating difference and bringing a multi-faceted perspective to our work.
To explore—as well as the specific themes and ideas of the current project—the notion and concept of theatre as a medium.
To take an audience on a journey beyond the realms of the mundane and everyday into the exciting truths of their imagination.
To draw upon a range of different art forms and disciplines.
To present ideas, pose questions and provide perspectives in our work rather than dictate to an audience.
To bring relevance and context through imaginative and theoretical ideas to our work whilst still remaining true and respectful to the play and playwright.
To explore the relationship between performers and the audience, breaking down traditional barriers.
To encourage creative input from all members of the company, for a richer development process.
To bring our work to a diverse range of people from different backgrounds, targeting new audiences.
